![]() ![]() In its second part, the study will analyze Papers, Please through a procedural-rhetorical approach, then consider the concept of simulation and representations as presented in the game. ![]() In these three endings the player is never free. However, there are only 3 endings considered as "successful" by the game: either the player choses authority over moral, moral over authority or none of the two. Each of her decision will shape the scenario of the game and its endings. The Player will have to choose between loyalty to authority or moral. Nonetheless, in Papers, Please under the oppressive regime the main character can still make choices, a concept that Bogost calls "possibility spaces". Although the game refers to a communist environment, the political regime in place is totalitarian. Papers, Please approaches the concept of Alienation defined by Marx. In the first section of this paper, I will approach each of these concepts in the context of the game. ![]() However, it turned out to be an award-winning game acclaimed by the critique and that deal with major concepts. Papers, Please was meant to be a short game, easy to play. ![]()
